McDonald’s Malaysia recognised for its Commitment to Talent

KUALA LUMPUR, 13 Dec 2019 – McDonald’s Malaysia was recently accorded four prestigious Human Resource awards, spanning the month of November. The company’s accolades included the Best Employer Award 2019 and Commitment to  Talent Focus Award 2019 by Kincentric; Best Company to Work for in Asia 2019 Award by HR Asia; and Malaysia’s Most Improved Healthiest Workplace for Large Organisations by AIA Vitality.

These acknowledgements are a testament to McDonald’s continuous commitment and efforts in engaging and building their talent holistically, as well as its strong people practices.

At McDonald’s, opportunities are in abundance for its people to grow. This is strongly supported by its strategic career planning initiatives, which maps out available opportunities and avenues for growth within the company. For example, crew members who work in restaurants may have opportunities to move up the ranks and take on bigger roles and responsibilities – to become Restaurant General Managers, and subsequently as an Operations Consultant, Regional Manager and Operations Director.

On top of that, McDonald’s provides the necessary training and skills development programmes to elevate each person to excel in their individual capacities.

McDonald’s Talent Programmes within the Local Community

McDonald’s Malaysia is also passionate about reaching out to local communities that it operates in, and this is especially evident through their community programmes. One of their key workforce programs which benefits the community directly, the National Dual Training System (NDTS), is an 18-month industry-oriented training programme which combines both workplace and institutional learning for underprivileged youths. The selected students will be awarded with the Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) Level 2 and Level 3 in Food Services upon successful completion of the programme.

Other talent programmes by McDonald’s Malaysia are:

  • Management Apprenticeship Programme – An 18-month, structured restaurant operations training, which only runs on weekends, is aimed at university students intending to pursue a career as a Management Trainee, which can lead to bigger roles in the Operations department. They would also have opportunities to pursue a career path in other areas like Marketing, Human Resources, Training, Customer Service, Supply Chain, Development and many others.
  • Internship Programme – Offers 3 to 6 months exposure into McDonald’s working systems (in the restaurant operational areas and the head office support functions), culture and values in making feel good moments for the customers.
  • Partnership with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) for MBA programme –Management trainees and managers who have completed selected McDonald’s in-house training modules will be eligible for credit transfers to pursue an MBA programme under Azman Hashim International Business School’s (AHIBS) of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
